GIFT Campaign Report: Year 2020

The GIFT (Giving in Faith and Thankfulness) campaign was launched in Advent 2016 to support the Archdiocese’s vision of a more vibrant, evangelising and missionary Church. This quarterly report updates on the campaign’s progress.

2020 was an extraordinary year, marked by the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Church and the world. It is truly by the grace of God that GIFT collected a total of $23 million in 2020, surpassing our year’s target of $20 million.

With the closure of churches and restriction on Mass congregation size, cash collections particularly through parishes dropped significantly, from $4.1 million in 2019 to just $500,000 in 2020. Most of the Foundation’s planned fundraising events and engagement had to be cancelled.

In response, the Foundation emphasised the need for regular giving throughout the year, urging the faithful to sign up for a monthly pledge – the most reliable source of funds for the Archdiocese. Ad hoc giving via PayNow was also presented as an option.

As a result, the number of monthly pledges rose by almost 47% (vs. less than 5% in 2019), though the increase in the amount from pledge contributions was not as significant.

$2.5 million was received via PayNow, partially making up for the shortfall in cash contribution. Further, several significant ad hoc contributions via cheques and credit cards made up for the fall in the number of contributors who would have given through parish collections. The Angelico Art Award 2020 and Christmas Ignite 2020 concert collected $440,000.

We are immensely grateful to our contributors who have risen above the current. This year, as our Church marks Catholic200SG, we pray that many would also contribute to the Ignite200 Fund set up to support the organising costs of the celebrations and our Archdiocese’s future.

We ask for your continued support and prayers as we work as one to build the Church today for tomorrow.

Thank you for being a part of GIFT.
