Freely the carp beneath the waters swim,
Suddenly it leaps and over the Dragon Gate it ascends,
All things rejoice; the spirit awakens!
Turning back, endless beauty to partake.

Its eyes like pearls and its scales of gold,
It stirs the waves, rising high and falling low,
At last it ascends the Dragon Gate with the river’s flow,
It sighs not for the river’s depth nor passing years.
